Oh Boy!

Whew! It has been one busy week for us! Let me start from the beginning...

Our big gender ultrasound was scheduled for October 15th, originally. I went in at 16 weeks exactly to do my quad screening blood work. I wasn't going to bother, since I have no risks of anything and the only reason I did it with the twins was because there was more of a risk of things with multiples. But, I decided to do it anyway...completely unaware of the high rate of false positives with these stupid tests!

I got a call a few days later that said everything looked fine, except my afp levels, which screens for the possibility of a neaural tube defect such as spina bifida, were slightly elevated. I FREAKED. I immediately started researching all there is to know about spina bifida, and quad screenings. My ultrasound was moved up to October 4, last Monday. By that time, after talking to a LOT of friends and doing tons of research, I felt pretty good that there was just a fluke in my blood work or I had a false positive. I met with a genetic counselor, which scared me all over again. I went in for the ultrasound a little while after meeting with the counselor, and finally, an hour later, I got the news I had been praying for...everything was perfectly fine. And the other good part? We are having another little BOY!!!!! I thought for SURE it was a girl, as did the majority of our friends and family...so I was pretty shocked to find out it was a boy, but of COURSE we are ecstatic, regardless!! He doesn't have a name yet, but here are some pictures for now. :-)
